Matt Connors: Body Forth
Installation view of Matt Connors Body Forth
Canada is pleased to present Body Forth, Matt Connors’ fifth solo show at the gallery. The exhibition features nine paintings and four works on paper. Body Forth is framed by three imposing black wood sculptural “room dividers”, by Ryan Preciado, that bisect the main exhibition space, responding to both the gallery architecture and Connors’ paintings. The sculptures also serve as display shelves for a drawing and small painting. Connors' works feature much of what makes his practice so singular; a wide range of sizes, deep saturated colors that soak into the surfaces, and drawing and collage techniques that are simultaneously casual and carefully ordered. The Paintings and drawings are of the world and the mind, composed of abstracted allusions to things seen or felt, creating a sense of both being slightly out of reach and rooted in lived experience.
Publication forthcoming accompanying the exhibition with writing by Durga Chew-Bose.
